Friday 5: Hanging around

Thursday, November 8th, 2007

This week’s Friday 5 is about things that are hanging:

  1. What’s something that’s hanging from your ceiling?
    Cobwebs.  Sorry.
  2. What’s something that’s hanging on your wall?
My wicked cool iMac “Yum” poster.
  3. What’s something that’s hanging in your closet?
    Um… shirts?
  4. What’s hanging from your rear-view mirror? (for those without cars, what’s something hanging from the rear-view mirror of a car you’ve recently ridden in?)
Nothing; hanging stuff from your rear-view mirror is a sign you either need a parking permit (I don’t) or have an unnecessarily strong need to amuse other people (I don’t).
  5. What have you been hanging onto for too long?
I have many, many boxes of stuff that I don’t even know what’s in them.  Those, probably.

Annoying product: Belkin ClearScreen Overlay for iPod touch

Tuesday, November 6th, 2007

This product annoys me.  It’s one of those static-cling type clear sheets that you put on the screen of a device to protect it from scratches.  I’ve used them for years on my Palm OS devices (including my current Treo 750P), so I figured I’d get one for my iPod touch, whose screen gets a lot of manhandling.

That’s all well and good.

Here’s the problem: despite saying on the package that this protector is for the iPod touch, the overlay is too small to cover the entire screen.  I’m not just saying that it doesn’t cover the entire front of the iPod (which is what I’d rather hoped it would).  It doesn’t even cover the entire display area of the screen.  It’s a good quarter-centimeter too small in both dimensions.

Don’t waste your money on this thing until they fix it.

Does anyone make a protective iPod touch screen overlay that covers the entire front of the unit?

Spaces revisited

Thursday, November 1st, 2007

So I was browsing my morning news and happened upon, of all things, MSNBC’s Leopard review.  It happens to mention that you can configure apps to be visible on all spaces.

Well, this was a surprise to me since I distinctly remembered reading elsewhere that you can’t do that.  However, I popped into System Preferences and took a look — and sure enough, yes, you can configure applications to appear in “Every Space.”

Sweet!  Now I’ve got Colloquy and iChat set to appear in every space, which lets me have more freedom to switch spaces without worrying that I may miss something important.  Yay, Apple!
