Alternative style sheets

The documentation for alternative style sheets is done, complete with a working sample you can toy with.

I’m not sure why I had such a mental block about working on this documentation for so long.  It’s an absurdly simple concept.  I must have been thinking about something else.

Anyway… there it is.  Enjoy.

Your example works fine for me in Fx 2.0.0.13 — I don’t think the feature was added in 3.0.

And works for me in Firefox 1.0.7 so, just some very overdue documentation.

There are some limitations that should perhaps mention, see:

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=426365 (which should probably be duped to the above, though WONTFIX is the wrong resolution)

Maybe you have been thinking about https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=200930 ?

That’s new stuff in Firefox 3

There’s enormously more that could be said, of course. A sheet with no title is always loaded, for example (that’s especially handy for basic formatting common to all alternate styles). Multiple sheets with the same name all get selected together. You can specify different versions for “print” media than for “screen” media, thus eliminating the need for those “click here for a version formatted for printing” links.

You may not want to get into all that, but perhaps a reference to the relevant portion of the HTML specification would be helpful to readers.
