I’ve done some work on documentation today.

First, the Firefox 3.1 for developers page has finally gotten a much-needed overhaul, and is much closer to its final form for the release of Firefox 3.1.  Please give it a look over and make sure everything there seems reasonably correct.  There are now links to a few articles that have yet to be written, which are coming soon.

Second, I’ve created a new article, Security changes in Firefox 3.1, which is intended to cover all security-related changes in Firefox 3.1.  This has very little content yet, so if you know security, please give it a look and help me track down all relevant information!

I’ve also created stubs for the following articles, which still need to be written.  These stubs simply contain links to blog posts and other materials that will be helpful when writing the real material:

I expect to work on these articles starting tomorrow.

The new IRC links feature on MDC is now up and running!  Check them out at the bottom of the table of contents box.  If you see pages that should have IRC links but don’t, let me know, and I’ll update the template.

I’m continuing my evaluation of Mindtouch Deki Lyons.  It’s looking quite promising, although a few of the features we most need haven’t completely settled into place yet, and a couple are presently slated to slip to a future release.

The RC1 release is an “API stable” release, but much of the UI has not been fully updated to support the new features yet.  These changes are due to arrive in the next couple of RC builds, over the next couple of weeks.  I look forward to seeing them!

I’m discussing this stuff with Mindtouch right now to see what can be done to prioritize a couple of these.  They’re being quite receptive, and I’m encouraged as always by that!

I’ve updated my Deki bug priority list with new information based on my discussions with them so far.

Mindtouch has released RC1 of the next major version of the Deki platform on which MDC is based.  I’m going to be spending much of tomorrow experimenting with it to see how it feels in terms of meeting our needs.

This version doesn’t yet support importing from or updating an existing install, so it will be somewhat limited testing.  The next release candidate is expected to support upgrading in place, which will let us do a more thorough investigation — however, we want to try to find as many possible issues as we can right away, in order to ensure that we get any revision requests in as soon as possible.

I also need to evaluate how much — if any — work needs to be done in order to make sure our custom skin is fully functional with the new features.

As a result of my surgery last winter, I’m presently required to eat four small meals a day.  For the last several months, these have been happening at around 9:30 AM, 1 PM, 7 PM, and midnight.  This has resulted in going to bed no earlier than 1 AM, and often more like 2 or 3 AM, due to other requirements, such as needing to take my bedtime vitamins an hour or so after my final meal of the day.

This has seriously messed up my sleep schedule, which is impacting my ability to work on a reasonably reliable schedule.

To fix this, I’m going to try to adjust my meal schedule slightly, to eat at 9:30 AM, 1 PM, 5 PM, and 9 PM.  The previous 7 PM mealtime was an attempt to have our “dinner” meal at the time my wife and daughter are used to, which really didn’t work well for me.  After talking to my wife about this problem last night, we agreed to try having dinner significantly earlier to see if that helps my sleep situation.

Having my fourth meal at around 9 PM means that I should be able to get to bed before midnight more reliably.  Hopefully this will result in getting enough sleep to function better.  Time will tell!

The point to sharing this information with you is to explain why I may be available at different times than I used to be.

The new IRC links feature for MDC is in the process of deployment to the live site now.  I’ve added the required template and other material to the wiki itself, checked in the skin changes into SVN, and have filed a ticket with IT to have them update the site and adjust a couple of needed settings to switch it on.  Hopefully we’ll have this up and running soon.

Once it’s live, then there will be some work to do to fine-tune the matching of channels to tags, but it should immediately be of some benefit.

It’s been suggested that it be possible to use Mibbet to offer in-browser IRC access.  I’m kicking around thoughts on that.  I don’t want to override the user’s preferred IRC client if they have one, but I agree it would be nice to let people get in through their browser if they don’t have one.  Any suggestions?
