Jan 032007

Well, it’s 2007 now, and since we’re some time away from being ready to seriously delve into Firefox 3 documentation, it’s time to plunge into my to-do list of things I’m not exactly eager to do, but that need to be done anyway.

If anybody has insights into any of the topics on my to-do list, feel free to contribute. This is mostly stuff I will have to do a great deal of research to get prepared to write about, so it will mostly be slow in coming. I’ll also be continuing as always to review wiki updates posted by others.

If there’s anything you’d like to see done in the docs, please let me know. There’s tons to do!

  1. In Firefox 2, extensions are finally able to specify other extensions they depend on in their install manifests. This is a huge improvement for extension authors. However, it seems no one thought about adding the information how to do that to the MDC – it would be great if you could do this/have it done.

http://wiki.mozilla.org/Extension_Dependencies contains information on this topic, but mixed with future plans. Therefore, one would need to extract only the Fx2-relevant information (possibly also from https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=298497 ) , then integrate it into http://developer.mozilla.org/en/docs/install.rdf , so people find it where they expect it.

  2. Interesting… this is the first I’ve heard of this. I’ll look into it.
